Forces of Nature

Over the last five days, the news from Japan has been washing over the millions and millions of Japanese people who have not been directly impacted by the forces of nature, as well as those of us fortunate to be living else where on the planet in places that do not experience tsunamis and earthquakes.. We watch the news reports on TV, or look at the newspaper images on the internet horrified; but most of us are unable to not watch, though breaks from watching are an absolute necessity. Since the summer of 2003, I’ve spent a lot of time, reviewing and commentating about the Japanese gravure models. In fact they are the most frequent topic on this website.

But the current situation in Japan has created sort of a block, or an obstacle, that I can’t seem to get around. Even though I have DVDs on hand waiting to be reviewed, and a few more due to be shipped to me within a week, I can’t manage to compartmentalize my thoughts of Japan’s current reality in order to sit down and do a coherent piece on the latest gravure models video images.

Rather – I simply can’t focus on the gravure models because today’s Japanese reality is so overpowering.

When we think of the Japan of as recently as a week ago, we can imagine or see the images, be they photos or paintings, of Mt. Fuji, the bullet trains, or flowers, especially the sakura or cherry blossoms. Via the internet, the images have been exported electronically to every corner of the world.

While I won’t call these images ubiquitous, they are at minimum, well known, or have been widely seen.

But the newer images, like the one above, and the last one in this post, are far too powerful to be ignored, forgotten, or to escape from our thoughts

Japan is a country of islands forming an archipelago. Japan is nearly the size of California, however, its population is nearly 4x times greater.

Japan is also a mountainous country which means that most of it’s people live in the flat coastal areas.

This means that for hundreds and hundreds of years, Japan has been a country dependent on the maritime industries like shipping and fishing for not only it sustenance but also its income.

Mikie Hara – Kanshi Ganbo- Monitoring Desire (January 28th, 2011)

Liverpool

Catalog # – LPFD-222 – Region 2 Disc – 16:9 Aspect

Running Time: 51 Minutes

The Skinny: Luscious Mikie Hara is back. Though released towards the end January of 2011, at the end of the credits, it shows a 2010 date; and I know I’ve seen Mikie in another ‘stalker’ video. Let me think about that for a second.

The Mikie stalker video was called Kirari Kirarete, and I reviewed it back in April of 2009. In that one, we were led to believe that Mikie was being stalked, but Mikie herself was the one who was cutting up her own clothes with a scissors – a hybrid video if there ever was one: a gravure DVD and a psychological thriller all in one. Only it didn’t work. It turns out that ‘KK’ was also a Liverpool release (LPFD-174). But wait – there’s more.

Tomomi Nakagawa – Gypsy – February 25, 2011

Tract / Story / Grossoc

Catalog # – TRST-0054 -All regions Disc – 16:9 Aspect

Running Time: 58 Minutes

The Skinny: A new model for me, Tomomi Nakagawa makes the news come aliveĀ  on the cover of her brand new DVD called Gypsy. Only kidding – she’s not making the news – she’s wearing the news. Soggy newsprint has never looked better as a wardrobe. Watch for the scene when we see the wardrobe assistant actually applying all the news necessary to cover the story – by hand – one story at a time – sorry make that one piece at a time.

These days, most idol DVDs come with the running times at least in the 1 hour plus range. Clocking in at just under 58 minutes, this DVD begs the question: Is ‘less’ the new more? While you ponder that, let me also add that the rhetorical question just asked also pertains to Tomomi’s costumes as well.

Besides the Daily Yomiuri’s printed news that she so proudly wears, Tomomi also wears a costume that consists of a sticky large print size tape measure, and in another costume which looks like some cut-down jeans shorts and a top that came out 2nd best in a fight with a scissors, they have taken the trouble to hand streak Ms Nakagawa with lots of mud.

Sayuri Ogawa – Honsho (February 4th, 2011)

Bunkyo / qh-eizo

Catalog # – BUQH-29 – All Regions Disc – 16:9 Aspect

Running Time: 70 Minutes

*Preview trailer: http://www.qh-eizo.com/products/entry/003078.html

The Skinny: While the curvy Ms Sayuri Ogawa is quite an eyeful – this DVD isn’t going to break any sales records. First of all, besides the opening, a montage, and a closing – here called an epilogue, there are only 8 main chapters. Since the montage, the opening, and epilogue will take up about 5 minutes – that leaves only about 64 minutes for those chapters. So right off you know that there won’t be a lot of bloat or filler to these chapters, and that’s good news.

Ayami Sawada – Aya Miracle (January 21st, 2010)

Japan Media

Catalog # -JMDV-7012 – Region 2 Disc – 16:9 Aspect

Running Time: 67 Minutes

The Skinny: Aside from the rather dull cover, Ayami Sawada has once again made her fans happy by appearing in a top notch DVD. Helmed by the uniquely named Trans Am, this one does a superb job of showing off Ayami’s considerable assets.

Rui Kiriyama – Hatsukoi H

Line Communications / I-One

Catalog # – LCDV-40452 – All Regions Disc – 16:9 Aspect

Running Time: 70 Minutes

The Skinny: This is the second of the Rui Kiriyma’s double release of January 20th. This one, along with Pururun H is a hot item. Sales have been excellent, in fact c.manifo.jp is currently sold out on both, and sales delivery should not be expected for 2 to 4 weeks. Amazon.co.jp has both currently in stock as of today February 1st.

Many folks, including me, believe that Rui is the likely successor to the newly retired Nonami Takizawa, as the Queen, or Numero Uno, or Ichiban of all the models in the big bust Gravure category.

Nonami Takizawa – Finale 2/2 (December 15th, 2010)

Line Communications / I-One

Catalog # – LCDV-40448 – All Regions Disc – 16:9 Aspect

Running Time: 72 minutes

The Skinny: We are sad to see Ms Nonami Takizawa leave the world of Gravure Idols. Despite her teary farewell, somehow I think we will see her again. But as she recedes out of the public’s view and acquires the ability to ride the Tokyo rail system unnoticed, we offer our thanks for her lengthy career in front of the cameras. But I am sure you’d rather see what shows up on this, the second of her two Finale DVDs, rather than have me stretch out this introductory paragraph any longer than necessary.

While Finale 1/2 was a joyous excursion to Bali, this one is more of a homegrown product. Okinawa is the base of operations this time. We also might even have a hotel room scene actually shot in Tokyo, but I can’t verify that.
