The Skinny: My first impression was that this was a rather well made DVD. No new ground was broken technically which means that this video is a lot like so many others that we’ve reviewed. That’s the bad news. The good news is that this video is free of the excessive directorial and editing gimmicks that often diminish the value of a gravure video.

My second impression is that Miiyu Watanabe (left), a budding and pretty gravure idol and Erika Toda (right), a rising star in Japanese television drama series look alike. What do think?

The Skinny: This is the first of Mikie Hara’s recent double release from I-One. Yes, we are again in Bali – no surprise there, as Bali has become even more popular with the Japanese production houses than ever. Let’s have a look at Mikie, in all her splendor.

The first of the main chapters opens with Mikie playing spiritedly on the beach. And there’s some long shadows. Likely when they started it was morning.

The Skinny:  While Mikie Hara plays a hostess on regular, or maybe I should say late night Japanese TV in the currently running series, Jyouou Virgin, her Double DVD release was perfectly timed by I-One to hit the shelves on October 20th, right in the midst of the series. A nice marketing ploy by Line Communications.

However, Mikie Hara doesn’t need a gimmick to sell her videos. But maybe they really rushed this one out, as part of a double release, so it would appear during the TV series, because this DVD is kind of flawed. (more…)

Anri Sugihara – Big Love (October 30th, 2009)

The Skinny: Wow – start with a beautiful girl, a gorgeous Balinese resort, her wonderful smile, lots of eye-contact, her outstanding personality and playfulness, and these huge breasts – and when you’re done mixing you’ll have a winning gravure idol DVD.

After the thrill ride that we’ll call the montage, the first chapter starts. Anri appears in a Japanese girl’s school uniform – white blouse, red tie, plaid skirt, knee socks, and loafers. She’ll tweak out a short song on a recorder which is a cross between a flute and a clarinet. Then she’ll flirt outrageously. Actually this is the weakest scene in the whole video.

Yuko Shimizu – Nittelegenic 2009 Sweet Candy (September 26th, 2009)

The Skinny: The DVD opens not with a montage, but instead we meet a girl on the road. It is Yuko Shimizu heading somewhere. She stops to say a few words to us.

Then we find her on a deserted Bali beach. We know she’s not alone…but there’s not a person in sight.

This opening scene has three stanzas – playing near but not in the water, playing catch with a velcro ball and mitt, and then being in the sand.

Two starts with Yuko in a white bikini and some decidedly high heels. She walks about the resort’s cement-paved sidewalk gardens. It is a beautiful place; entirely modern with only the gorgeous plants serving as an indicator we are in Bali.

The Skinny: We head off to Saipan to watch the cute and perky Yoshimi Hamasaki in Legendary Peach from Aqua House / Splash Girl. Though Yoshimi is less busty than we usually offer here at AoV, make no mistake. This is a fine video.

The Opening montage which clocks in at about three minutes shows us that there’s a good variety in the scene locations. They make all the usual stops – beach, bath tub, forest, abandoned buildings, etc. And this is good. Too much indoors isn’t to my liking. (more…)

Aya Kiguchi – Koibito Tsunagi (August 26th, 2009)

Running Time: 100 Minutes

The Skinny: 100 minutes (including the Extra Scene) is a long time for a gravure idol DVD. It usually means some scenes are bloated or overlong, or maybe they have scenes that are simply filler, or the 3rd possibility is that they didn’t come up with enough quality scenes for a double release.   Let’s check out Aya Kiguchi  in Koibito Tsunagi and see if the hundred minutes are worthy of your time and mine.
