The Skinny: Though the official credit lists Mari Abe as the performer in this brand new DVD, we all know that it is Haruna Yabuki. As for the explanation for the name change, I have no idea. But really, once the DVD starts to play, you won’t care what she calls herself.
The video is based entirely in Japan. We even get a grand look at her on the neon-centric bright Tokyo streets in the making of segment. Meanwhile back at the beginning of the video, we get a so-so montage which leads us to greeting our gorgeous model in a bedroom.
She chats and flirts. With the chat not lasting all that long. You’ll see that she wears her hair longer than most of the models these days.
Next up Mari wears a white with red and black vee-necked tee shirt. She’s working on a piece of fruit. peel the skin, slice and dice, and share. Before long the fruit is handed off. Cue the music, Higher Than the Sun, which isn’t a new song. I recall asking for someone to ID the singer years ago when it played in a Yoko Matsugane video.
Mari poses sweetly as well as doing some mind-bending stretching.
Man, she is definitely limber. The room has an upright piano, hard wood floors, and a unique stained-glass window. Oh yeah, Mari’s panties are red and black with white lettering a nice contrast to her shirt.
Three begins at 12:33. We have a red leather sofa with Mari sitting on it. She’s wearing faded jeans and another tank top, this time in gray. She plays with some eye-glass frames.
One of the things I love about this model is how playful she is, and how relaxed and comfortable she is before the cameras. The jeans come off as does the tank top, but the smiles remain.
Next, within the same scene, she does the tooth brushing thing. Maybe after all my years of bitching about the ice cream popsicles, they’ve decided to go in a different direction, do ya think?.
Then she hands off the tooth brush to a staff member who uses it on Mari’s teeth. There’s not even a hint of tooth paste or water. And one more thing – Mari, talking while someone is brushing your teeth is a no-no.
All of which makes the next chapter – a red bikini and lots of body oil – so much more enjoyable. But this scene, which started so well, goes awry too. For reasons beyond my comprehension, they decided to do half the scene with only a hint of light. Boo!!!
A scene with a bathtub with lots of sudsy soap bubbles and some sparkling champagne is the next treat on our menu. Wow! Words aren’t needed.
Mari/Haruna is awfully chatty and playful. She even pours the champagne and we get to hear the fizzy sounds. Kampei! Oishi des ka? Hai!
In part two of this chapter, she’s going to pout the champagne over her body. In between she have a few sips. Honestly, this is a first, at least for me. I’ve seen Rio Natsume sip wine in a lady-like fashion while fully dressed at bar. Ditto Sayaka Ando. But this is the first time, I’ve seen a model drink this much as well as bathing in it the champagne.
There’s a a part III of this bath scene- Mari is wrapped in a towel and she sits on the window ledge of her hotel room. Now she has a lollipop to amuse herself with.
Next we see her using one of those hand-held skin toners that are actually a rolling ball apparatus. Then some body lotion is sprayed on her legs, arms, and chest, then rubbed in. Mari will also employ another small plastic body toner which I guess is another kind of rolling skin toning instrument. With all this care, it is no wonder that her skin looks so good.
But wait there’s more. Lipstick applied by hand, and finger nail polish complete the body update as well as the scene.
Next out of the chute is Mari/Haruna as something of a dominatrix. Bustier, stockings, garter belt, shoes that buckle up to her calves, a hat, a choker necklace, and a riding crop complete the ensemble. Though she doesn’t hand out any actual punishment, she threatens to do so. One could say that Mari’s skills as an actress allow her to make this role playing chapter work.
At 50:47 the playful, sexy, and lovable Mari/Haruna is back. This is another bedroom scene. The room is quite plush in an ornate way. Mari is playing another role in this chapter. This time it is the beautiful and languid lady who is doing her nest to seduce us.
This isn’t done by humping a pillow like Yoko might do, or removing her top like Minami Matsuzaka might do, instead this is a sexy and gorgeous woman playing with her hair, smiling, and looking infinitely better than anything you or I have seen lately.
Candles galore, and a beautiful woman dressed in gold comes next. Based on the time I’d say this could be the last of the main chapters. This was done with a lot of artistry. The theme has to be erotic, and you can say the scene works because of the fabulous job they did with the lighting. Of course having a model with a tan helped considerable. Towards the end, Mari will play with a big candle, then a smaller one all for the purpose of having some candle wax drip onto her body.
The last three minutes of the main chapters have Mari sitting on a bed playing with feather. She does a voice over as well as live action talking to us. Then the credits roll.
The making of chapter runs about 9 minutes and change. This is when we get a lot of the real model. She’s working and having fun. You ‘ll love hearing her laugh and seeing those spontaneous smiles. Just fabulous.
Summary: It’s great having you back Ms. Gorgeous. Hope to see more of you on DVD’s or on TV. While this isn’t a perfect DVD, Mari Abe is simply a terrific model. Whether this is a comeback to gravure or just a one-time thing, I can’t say. What I can do is give this DVD a excellent rating and what I can say is that I can give this DVD a hearty recommendation. Four point two five.
