Hana Haruna – Purun 2 (September 26th, 2009)
Saibunkan
Catalog # – SBVD-49 – Region 2 Disc – 4:3 Aspect
Running Time: 80 Minues

The Skinny: This is Hana Haruna’s 5th release this year and her first for Saibunkan. In fact this will be only the 5th review that I’ve done for a Saibunkan release. The previous four were Fuko in Kyo-P, Mizuki Horii in Biiku, Kana Tsugihara in Irodori, and Miho Ishii in M-Style. As this release, Purun 2, had been highly anticipated, let’s get right to it.

The fine montage runs 2:25 leading to the 1st of the main chapters with Hana riding a bicycle through the country side. She pedals on a country lane past some rice paddies. Eventually she reaches a point overlooking the beach. She whips out a recorder (like a small wooden pipe) and starts playing.
It is bad enough to make you want to turn off the audio, but on the bright side it isn’t all that long. But there’s a major problem – after the audio track makes it normal start – about a minute and half later it re-starts. So for awhile, we hear two tracks of Hana talking as well as the awful recoder overlapped and repeated. Some how this is corrected (I think) because when Hana discards her school uniform to romp around on the beach – there’s only a normal stereo music track.

This isn’t one of Bali’s prettiest beaches and the sand is dark. There’s one part where Hana is walking on the beach and turning round and round. Just as I was thinking, this is making me dizzy, Hana begins to wobble and almost totters off her own feet. Hana does give us plenty of bouncing and jiggling to make you forget about the earlier audio gaffe.

In three, Hana has changed from the white bikini to a gold one piece. The beach has been exchanged for a beautiful swimming pool. Hana uses a bottle of water, a table, a large poolside umbrella’s pole, and the hand rails that people need to climb in or out of the pool, as her props. Yes she does get wet.

Visually, this was one of the finest scenes I’ve ever seen in terms of the colors and lighting. But the music track had people skatting and whistling (no lyrics) and was quite annoying.

Four opens with Hana coming down some steps. She’s wearing a purple something which is so short it can’t cover her panties. As for the front, there’s some big embroidered appliques sewn in to hide the business ends of her boobs. Not much happens other than Hana posing. While she looks great, the scene is kind of ordinary.
Five has Hana in a faux-leopard skin bikini under a blue denim jacket. She’s out on the deck where breakfast or afternoon cocktails are served but here, they’ve got her working with a big exercise ball.

You know, the kind the model sits or bounces on. Wrong setting for this kind of prop, as she could hurt her head on the concrete or incur bruises or scrapes if she took a tumble. This kind of scene should be shot on a grass lawn or a sandy beach.

Fortunately the denim jacket and eventually the ball both go away. And we are left with Hana and her boobs and butt.

Which continues in the next scene with Hana posing beautifully in another bikini (Part I).

This DVD was shot at the beautiful Bali Alam Puri resort and in this scene, we will ultimately get with Hana in a private splash pool (Part II).

She will undo the bikini straps and hold the top against her breasts. Then….

…we get Part III of the same scene and Hana is being slowly wrapped in a length of plastic rope. After which she slowly begins to unwind the same plastic rope when suddenly, it vanishes and we are back to Hana clutching the untied bikini top against her body. This looks like a continuity/editing gaffe to me.

Six has Hana out on the beautiful grounds of the resort. She’s going to jump rope for us. Beneath that multi-colored striped top and white denim shorts there’s a yellow bikini. When she’s worn out from the jumping, someone hands her a bottle of water.

You do know what’s next, don’t you? Of course Hana will take off the striped top and the shorts and then pour water into her cleavage. It’s a small bikini, and Hana is stacked, so this is becomes a scene with a lot of jiggling and bouncing boobs.

Next up is a second beach scene. Hana wears a knit yellow dress over her bikini. And there’s plenty of cleavage waiting to emerge. A water bottle is handed to her. She drinks some of it, spills some of it, and then something I’ve not seen before -

- Hana parks the water bottle in her cleavage so she can have BOTH hands free to take off the yellow dress. Again the dark sand is distracting but Hana gives us a lot wiggling and jiggling to make us forget about that nasty looking sand.
You will have to forget about the sand because if you were expecting a shower scene, or maybe a bath scene, or even a rinse off in the ocean, forget it. It doesn’t happen.

Hana next appears on the verandah. She wears a bulky pink sweater over a small white bikini. We get a lot of intriguing angles – down the sweater’s neckline, looking up at her crotch as she stands over the camera, even up to her cleavage from a waist level shot (beneath the sweater of course).

Then she presents us with a series of marvelous poses on a bed on the verandah. It is during this scene that Hana really and truly looks beautiful as evidenced by the above image.

Next, on the patio, poor Hana has to assemble her own hula hoop. She’s wearing a blue dress over small white Panties.
Apparently she is bra-less beneath the blue dress. Well she CAN wiggle well enough to show us a successful series of hula-hoop revolutions.
After which she just poses by tugging down the neckline of this blue dress.
Eleven has Hana as our waitress.

Her costume is cute and we have some of the best visuals of the entire video in this scene.

Check out Hana with her back to us posing. I am sure this why high-heeled shoes were invented for women.

Twelve has Hana in her bedroom at the Villa. It is spacious and with a balcony. There’s lots of natural light. Check out the cute bra with red trim and little anchors. Hana then attacks this strange fruit and has some oral highlights while eating something from this fruit’s innards. Watch out for the pits Hana! Naurally there’s some spillage onto her mighty boobs.

I was going to say, at least this is a change from the ice creams on a stick or huge lollipops that we usually get. Well it is a change, but we get the big lollipop anyway. Bummer!

Finally Hana dispenses with the oral props before climbing onto the bed to show off her some healthy and tasty portions of her huge breasts.

This marks the end of the main chapters. The credits begin at 71:40, then we get about 8 minutes 20 seconds of the Making of segment bringing us to a total of about 80 minutes of action. This segment was basically the director continually chatting with Hana as the making of footage was shot. I thought this was interesting as we got to see more of opulent Hana as a person than in the standard chapters which are usually visuals with music tracks dubbed in afterward.

Then we had a five still photos section called Pinups but they were not click-able, and then what was called Lineup which I expected to be previews of other DVDs. I hoped for some action footage in these previews but sadly it was just a single image containing the covers of 10 other DVDs, and none were click-able.

Summary: Lots of fine views of the fabulous Hana Haruna are presented. Loved the villa, hated the dark sand beach. Loved the many scenes shot with natural light. Hated when the reflectors became too obvious. Aside from the technical gaffes I’ve already described, this was a well made production. While the music was quite eclectic and different, almost none of it matched with the scenes.

I’m giving grand kudos to Hana-chan. Yes, I will buy her future DVDs. In fact I can’t wait for more of her. And yes, I will recommend this one despite the fact that this is far from a perfect video (the audio issue and the continuity gaffe stand out). However we can lay those issues off on the editor and director. As for the star, Hana Haruna, she is a nearly perfect model if you love busty gravure idols. Four point two five is the rating.

Mike – Thanks for the thorough, insightful, and ever-so-speedy review. (I’m assuming that you ordered yours from Amazon – FedEx delivery.
Mine – from cdJapan – EMS delivery – is a little slower in arriving, but I should have it by tomorrow).
I hesitated (momentarily) reading your review, wanting the thrill of a new Hana viewing experience to be unbiased, but I quickly gave in to the temptation to see what you thought of the disc, and I’m not sorry that I did.
I’m slightly disappointed that there are a couple (minor) production errors, but, like you, I can easily overlook these, given that it’s not Hana’s fault.
I’m more disappointed that the dvd is not presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio (when will the day come that ALL Idol videos are presented in a widescreen format? And furthermore, why aren’t more of the big stars’ releases – and I’m considering Hana to be a ‘big star’ – available in Blu-ray?)
Anyway, after reading your commentary and ogling your vidcaps, I’d say that this one looks like a winner to me.
One final note … if I ever discovered that Hana was waitressing in a restaurant wearing that outfit, I would become a daily customer, and wouldn’t leave until closing!
Become a daily customer ? Heck I’d become either a bus-boy, a coat check dude, a Maitre D, a helper in the kitchen, even a doorman for a chance to ogle her. That vest needed to be held tightly at the bottom by Hana-chan, lest a disatrous apparel accident could occur.
Hey Mike, I’ve not seen any Gravure Idols in Blu-Ray. I know Mikie Hara and Mai Nishida have appeared in Blu-Ray. Who do you have?
As always thanks for your readership, comments, and support.

As I remember, VHS died over a single summer… mainly because DVD was actually cheaper and faster (and therefore cheaperest) to produce than VHS, since Blueray is still kinda expensive, I guess it still has some ground to cover…
I got the feeling many of this year’s top selling titles will show up next year as BD releases (they love to milk money out of customers) but we’ll know…
As for Hana… she’s FANTASTIC, as usual, I like Rui better, but that’s just me… is like getting into those “Harumi vs Yoko” arguments… Hana’s pictures look great, although there’s some photoshoping… still, the screen caps look amazing imo.
Thanks for the review!
Hi Xater
For the Hana Haruna DVD – I worked with the PowerDVD software. It grabs the caps as BMP’s and I’ve set the size at 720 X 406. Then I have to whack them down even further to about 420 wide give or take so they fit on mny web page, and then I change them to JPEGs, and yes most of the caps have been tweaked a little .
I never could figure at why a DVD cost more than a VHS considering that the DVD has no moving parts.
Yes Blue Ray is expensive, and given the fact that I am paying for Express Shipping from Japan, I’ll forego the Blu-Ray experience for idols for the present.
As for deciding which idols is best – no one will ever change anyone’s mind via discussion. Only the idols themselves can make that happen – for the present I’ll continue to follow Yoko, Rio, Nonami, Hana, Hitomi K, Rui, Mikie, Miho , Miyabi and Miri. That’s my top 10. With Hitomi Aizawa, Minami Matsuzaka, and Anri Sugihara waiting in the wings.
Thank you to Hitomii [T] and Fuko for changing teams and saving me some money.
Thanks for your readership interest and comments, Xater – You keep those comments coming.

A few years ago, there was CD settlement in the US with people who sued the industry for their overpriced-ness, I heard that STEAM service (sells game as downloads) charges more than physical copies because publishers threatened with boycotts, I guess DVDs where overpriced to prevent VHS being blown out of the picture, which just happened anyways… and they kept the discs overpriced since they had no competence (save piracy). But I’m pretty sure the prices are high artificially. Not that much with Blue Rays, though, DVDs are much cheaper.
I’m surprised you didn’t include Mayuka in your faves.
Okada [Mayuka] des ka?
I didn’t think of her when I responded – I’ve had DVDs of her that I just wasn’t inspired enough to review.
She’s a big armful of woman isn’t she? Overpowering in a sense —
So DVD’s prices were intentionally bumped upward to keep VHS as an option (price-wise) despite the fact that there was a night and day difference in the video quality. And then they said – WTF – might as well keep them at the level – people are gobbling them up anyway.
Prices should fall in the near future as the video rentals and the video on demand delivered directly to you are certainly viable options instead of straight purchase of the disc.
Oh, one more thing – your smiley’s aren’t working.

Interesting discussion guys. Enjoyed it a lot.
jmm – going back to your question for me …
I have ZERO Idol Blu-ray Discs … way too expensive.
But I would make an exception for Hana Haruna …
and perhaps a small handful of others.
Mike
Sorry for the smilies…
Nice design!!!
Something I forgot to comment in terms of format is that VHS had the recording ability going for it… which, despite its low quality, was something DVD had not.
One thing Blue Ray is going against now besides DVD itself, is the online content, there are places who sell wmv files and there’s a service called “toaster” where you pay and a DVD gets burned in your DVDRW… I don’t know if it will catch up, but my guess is that Online content will grow faster even than Blue Rays (some people only watch the IVs once, anyways)
Yo X -
no apology needed. The smiley’s didn’t work – and that’s not your fault.
This is an older design that’s been sitting around on a break for three years. Just dragged it out so the moths wouldn’t get to it.
Speaking of Blu-Ray – I just picked up the classic Steve McQueen policier Bullitt in Blu-Ray. $10 bucks. Couldn’t leave just leave it there. I thought it would be interesting to see what they could do with a film that was released in 1968 and VHS didn’t come around until the latter part of the 70′s.
