Yu Nakamura – With You (February 8, 2008)
Takeshobo
Catalog # – TSDV-41165 – Region 2 Disc – 16:9 Aspect
Running Time: 52 minutes

The Skinny: Looks like this DVD is a video taken of a photo-shoot assignment in Bali. Lovely Yu Nakamura, who has just released a music video in Japan, has been a gravure model for a few years. She wears her hair like Hiroko Sato, but seemingly has a more perky and effervescent personality. On the other hand, Hiroko has a far more sexier body. But that shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying this video.
Rather than walk you through With You, chapter by chapter, I’ll just give you an overview. Each of the scenes are a video segment of Yu being photographed.
We are shown the set ups for various shots, We watch takes , then more takes, and then retakes.
We hear the crew and Yu discussing aspects of the shots. There’s also a running interview as well.
You’ll have an opportunity to check out Yu’s eclectic wardrobe for the shoot. It seems obvious that the art director and stylist put a lot of work into making Yu look good.
And let’s give credit to the director for his choices of locations. Yes, this is Bali, and we’ve been over this turf so often it is almost familar, but still – choices have to be made. It’s not only the ‘where’ but it also the ‘when’.
Despite the fact that this video is more than a year old, and despite the fact that some of you might see this as an extended behind the scenes DVD – it all works quite nicely.
When you watch Yoko Matsugane looking sexy, or Rio Natsume looking voluptuous as well as cute, or Nonami Takizawa looking, sexy, voluptuous and cute – you will enjoy the video. But when the video has ended, you’ve not really gotten to know much about them.
In this video, even though my Japanese language skills are even much less than basic, I feel that Yu Nakamura has revealed much about herself.
It’s not just how much skin a model shows, but really how well she comes off as a person that makes for a successful video.

Summary: Four point zero – all for the energy and personality of the model, the wonderful location shots, and the superb choices made for wardrobe.
This video is basically 180 degrees opposite of a standard gravure DVD yet it has all the ingredients of a Idol Video along with the insights of a documentary about how the gravure idols and crews go about their business.

The reality was that while they traveled to Bali and were shooting this video, they also made another video starring Yu. That one was entitled Dear, and was released on the same day as this one.

To quote what Yu Nakamura said with a quick wave throughout the video as she rushed off for yet another costume change, “Ja!” which is the same as ‘Catch you later‘ or C-Ya.
