Hitomi (Tanaka) – B30 Special DVD (April 2009)
Bachelor Magazine DVD Insert
Running Time: 37+ minutes

The Skinny: Hitomi is just one the segments on the DVD. There’s an interesting mix of both Japanese and non-Japanese models included but for this review we’ll just have a look at Hitomi. Primarily, this is a video of a photo/video shoot and it contains both topless and clothed segments.

Since the bulk of Hitomi’s professional time is spent making hardcore adult videos and then promoting them, this is a welcome change of pace.

Running only a wee bit over 37 minutes, there’s not a whole lot to see. You’ll have to deal with the fact that Hitomi is being paid to model for a photographer and our perspective is occasionally looking over someone’s shoulder, or from behind the primary photographer. So be prepared for heads and shoulders that aren’t part of Hitomi’s magnificent superstructure intruding.

Also be aware that the lighting from our angle is often not geared for optimum effect as our videographer is not the primary. We will see reflectors, overhead boom microphones, the flashing of camera mounted lights, and often Hitomi’s face is in shadows.

So the fact that this is far from a perfect video is going to be there front and center. So you’ll have to deal with it. On the other hand, how sweet it is to not have to deal with watching some dude on top of her.

The so very famous Hitomi breasts do get plenty of screen time; both covered or uncovered. As you know Hitomi could succeed anywhere on the planet as a nude model or bikini model (language barriers and working visas not withstanding) but for the time being she is sticking with her Japanese employers.

You might find it interesting that Hitomi will take off a few sets of panties then autograph them, then plant a kiss on them leaving the lipstick imprint. Then she signs a bit of cardboard with the date Jan 14, 2009 which must have been the day of the shoot.

In the latter part of the video, like the last six minutes, we see some of the video shot with the primary camera and these are not over-the-shoulder or the equivalent of making-of segments.

Needless to say, Hitomi’s fans will be pleased, however, I’m not going to rate this DVD as it isn’t available outside of Japan at the moment.

Amazon.co.jp does carry the magazine and video but will not ship it outside of Japan. JList.com, which does carry Bachelor Magazine, will probably carry it at some point in the future, but they don’t have it yet.

It’s so good to see Hitomi in an old-school way once again, she was one of my favorites til’ we know what and now she’s just in the past for me.
Of course, her smile and her body are awesome. Ahhhh… how I miss these old times…
Greetings.

Hi Pedro – yeah, the good old days…
fortunately we still have the good old days … though maybe without Hitomi. As always, thanks for the comments.

How would this video be defined, is it gravure?

Well categorizing this is problematic. First of all there’s no sex. But Hitomi is topless in at least some of this video. On that basis alone, we probably can’t place this DVD in the gravure niche.
My thoughts are that the magazine contains advertising. Magazine advertising is priced on circulation figures – you know; how many subscribers plus how many copies are sold over the counter at newstands, train stations, airports, etc.
The magazine will go the expense of manufacturing the DVD as a free insert into the magazine because the DVD will help sell the magazine and keep the ad rates where the magazine needs them to be. Hitomi, or which ever model, is already hired to model. The DVD footage of the modeling session, which will promote the magazine sales, will also promote the model, so that sales of her other DVDs will continue to do well.
In Japan, this is a rather common practice. Bejean is another Japanese magazine that does this. Though I can’t speak from any factual standpoint, it stands to reason that the Video Production houses and some of the magazines may very well be separate divisions of some huge parent company or conglomerate.
This kind of joint effort makes complete sense to me.
In the west, you can find similar ‘free discs’ in the magazines that support the video game industry, and you can find ‘free’ PC Utilities discs as well.
Even in the movie industry, you can find that promotional preview discs are also placed in retail outlets well before the actual movie is released in order to create a buzz.
Sorry for the lengthy reply which strayed somewhat from your original question.
