The Skinny: A spectacular looking DVD shot in some of Okinawa’s choicest locations. Back for her third appearance on our pages (Face & Like A Flower) the tall and lanky Yuriko Shiratori looks great whether she is deep in the forest or on a gorgeous beach. The director employs a zoom lens quite often and this means lack of depth of field. Guess what – this technique works fine in this DVD. But a successful DVD is more than just images.

Our opening scene finds Yuriko on a sparkling Okinawan beach. She wears a dark blue sleeveless jacket and a short skirt. The location is unlike any we’ve had the pleasure of showing you. Off shore we can see countless rock formations which contribute to the location’s beauty. She removes the jacket but unfortunately she’s already standing in the water so she has to hold the jacket.

Finally some one thinks about it and says, Let’s go on shore so you can get rid of the jacket (and the skirt). And in another first we find Yuriko is wearing the top of one bikini and bottoms of another. Sure it is a mismatch, but on this beach and in this scene, we don’t really care.

The second chapter features Yuriko in a wrap dress in yellow with a floral pattern. They’ve posed her with some lovely green leaves so the scene is perfectly color coordinated. Lots of closeups spotlight Yuriko’s beautiful face. Take note of the cute snail she spots on a leaf. You know this kind of snail. He carries his home, the shell on his back, where ever he goes. You have seen this snail by his name on your menu – escargot. I guess appearing in a gravure idol DVD will become news in his world.

A bedroom scene is next. The lighting is beautiful, the model is beautiful, and her sweater is beautiful. However this scene is rather long and extremely languid. It doesn’t quite deserve to be called boring, as Yuriko will remove her sweater revealing a cool dark green bikini. Just keep in mind that the pacing was rather slow.

The next scene feature Yuriko in a bold pink bikini. She’s situated out by the pool. The resort features a covered deck area supported by wooden columns. Yuriko will wander in and around these columns before stepping into the pool.

And then before you can take this in, she’s back amongst the columns. This scene was pretty, and the guitar track was pretty, but once again was so languorous that you will wish for something up-tempo. By now, you should be aware that the first four scenes were all paced exactly alike.

Out in the country, we next find Yuriko in a red see through, off the shoulder blouse over her bikini. The location is a water rushing downstream.

Yuriko is posed on the rocks. We see but don’t hear the falling water. I think that given that she’s reclining on slippery rocks and can’t really move, that the natural sounds of the water would have made the scene quite exciting.

Back indoors, we find Yuriko in black panties and stockings and a colorful print blouse. The camera works in close after the introduction, and you’ll be wanting to not even blink as the closeup work is very effective.

Yuriko must love black, as she’s still swathed in black in the next scene. Fortunately for us, this is another scene on the beach.

While that is a truthful statement, we don’t see much of the sea or the sand. Instead the lovely Yuriko poses in front of a rather impressively large boulder on the shore.

In the next scene, Yuriko wears a pretty bikini. As the scene opens she lying on her side on an exotic sheet. There’s hardly an movement at all. About halfway though, Yuriko will abandon the lying on her side position in favor of on her back. Boring.

A shower scene is what we get next. We see hands, fingers, toes, thighs, in tight close ups. The water drops are very easy to see. After a full minutes we get a view of Yuriko’s face but only briefly. Because more of body parts follow.

It is nearly a full two minutes into the scene before they show us a full body shot which reveals that Yuriko has a hand held shower nozzle meaning she can direct the water wherever she wants or rather where-ever the director wants.

While it was very pretty to look at, the director should have had the model on screen more than he did rather than ‘isolated’ parts of the model.

Yuriko walks in a see-through white nightgown (or something akin to a nightgown) only she’s not in a bedroom. Instead she’s on the rough hewn coast walking amidst a rocky ‘lunar-ish’ landscape. Sure, we can see the water, but this doesn’t look light the right place for a barefoot girl in a sexy garment. To add to the mystification this scene has occasional moments of soft focus and far too many shots of Yuriko’s feet.

We are now 50 minutes into the DVD and the credits roll next, along with some cute behind the scenes look at Yuriko Shiratori.

Summary: I have no choice but to give this video a ‘mixed’ rating. While Yuriko is quite beautiful, and while the visuals are stunning at times, the distinct lack of action, the overly leisure pacing in scene after scene, and the languid music tracks make this DVD almost a snooze fest.

When you have your cameras available in a spectacular location, we don’t want to see feet, calves, and thighs. We want to watch a model doing something. If you can’t find something for her to do – then the director must must utilize the mobility of the camera. How about circling the model. How about using some steps and the camera goes up or down to meet the model. Be creative.

Sorry despite the ravishing good looks, Yuriko’s fans will feel somewhat shortchanged by Director Naohiko Nakamura’s anchored camera. Not really dazzling at all equals three point two five.
