I’ve occasionally picked up some Mizuki DVDs here and there (Physical!, On/Off and now Hanamizuki), and there’s no doubt she’s a stunning woman with a killer body (minus a point or two for the seeming boob job), but she seems really limited in her on screen personas. Now, neither of us would argue that performing in an idol video demands the same kind of acting chops as a Shakespearean play, but the cute thing is wearing a little thin. Especially after 10 DVDs.

She’s like early Natsume Rio who, likewise, only did cute well and suffered when called on to act sultry or aggressively sexy, got trapped in Hanai Miri’s body (both really short but really busty). Take the last couple of tracks on the DVD – serious problems when called on to do sexy IMO. Mizuki-chan often got the deer-in-headlights syndrome going.

Don’t get me wrong – I do think she is one of the few newer idols to have some honest-to-goodness screen presence and charisma, but I want to see something else besides kawaii on occasion.

All other arguments aside, its hard to argue with that cute face, killer body and the twins. I’d knock 0.5 off the score due to repetitiveness, but still a damned good release.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Mizuki Horii’s star is on the rise. I’ll be watching for her next DVD. The Takizawa DVDs can be pre-ordered from Amazon.co.jp. Not sure about YM.

Tomorrow is August 10th and marks the 1 year anniversary of this website. I appreciate all the comments that my readers submit, and I am working on a look back at some of Yoko’s finest moments.
