Beauty On Our Own Shores

Today is the Fourth of July. People will go out on boats, or load up their automobiles and go someplace. Across America there will be family outings to beaches and parks, where picnics and barbecues will happen. There will be parades, fireworks, and of course baseball.

Some will enjoy the holiday by camping out, or going for a hike in woods, maybe playing a round golf in the morning followed by imbibing a few tankards of beer; or maybe they’re content to just having a leisurely swing on the family hammock in the backyard. Fortunately for us, others, like that bartender with his back to us on the party boat below, will be working, so the rest of us may enjoy this day.

Those of us living in America will be celebrating the anniversary of our country’s independence. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed by the founding fathers of our country, and even though that event was two hundred and thirty one years ago, the day of the Signing will always be a National Holiday.

Our land is populated with people from every corner and outpost on the globe. We are a new country, and a new people. We enjoy our holidays in a myriad of different ways. However, despite the melting pot aspect of America, our people have one similarity. Each of us love beauty in all of its forms.

As this column has now appeared on the web on each of the July 4th weekends since 1998, I thought that for this issue we would take a look at an American Artist whose work features beauty and style, and gorgeous women.

At Rest and Golden Reflections above
Artist Lee Bogle is a pre-eminent American Artist whose breathtaking works have centered on Native Americans. He has said this about his art:
There’s a spirituality in my art that the viewer must interpret for himself. Frequently I paint women whose faces are turned upwards, toward the sky. Many times their eyes are closed, as if in peaceful contemplation. I want my paintings to express a depth of serenity that comes only with inner peace.

One With Nature and Quiet Solitude above
I can’t speak for you readers, but these paintings certainly say something to me. They speak of natural beauty, and of clarity of thought, of spiritual harmony, and of peace.

The Red Pot and Wrapped In Warmth above
Our last representative example Bogle’s artwork (below) is simply stunning. The title is quite apt. Bogle calls this one Dancing Princess. I find it mesmerizing.

And that, readers, is a fitting note for this mid-summer look at culture to end. I know you are all eager to go from the high brow of fine art to another topic. So for all of you wanting to see some scantily clad women, let’s get to it. Just head over to our index page and you will find nearly 130 articles on earthly delights of all kinds. And I promise there are many more columns still to come.
