The models are either in the show more and more but not everything mode or they are in porn. I'll have a new review of Yuka (Yuuka) Sawachi's Milk Chocolate later today. She's 31 and her DVDs definitely have the edge to them. On the other hand - there's the business end of it all - the titles have to sell or they'll stop making them. Even today's newer and younger models have adopted the less is more style. By less I mean "less clothing". I can't speak to the pre-2002 days as I got my first look at the Gravure idols with MEGUMI, Yoko Matsugane, Rio Natsume, and Harumi Nemoto. Later Miri Hanai joined them making up the pantheon. I can't think of 5 other models, who taken as a group, have surpassed these five. Aside from Horii Mizuki, I haven't been really impressed with any new idols recently, and even my enthusiasm for Mizuki is somewhat dampened by her seemingly articificial enhancements (one of the reasons I think Aizawa Hitomi is vastly overrated). For me, I think the Golden Age Of Gravure Idols has passed on: new idols are blurring the lines between gravure and softcore (and in more extreme cases, hardcore) more and more which IMO really weakens the genre. If I want to watch porn, I'll watch porn. When I get a gravure idol product, that's what I expect and what I want, not wannabe AV stars prancing around. That being said, I really enjoyed Mizuki's Physical quite a bit and it prompted me to buy her first photobook, Double Moon. Not bad at all... kind of an early Hanai Miri vibe going on with all the undercleavage shots. Okay, I'm done with my Grumpy Old Man impression for now.... (^_^) I dunno.
