“So, who do you like today?”
This is the tagline for some new promotional TV and radio spots that are being aired in the New York City Metropolitan area. They are trying to lure you to go to Belmont Park, which is the primo place for Thoroughbred Horse Racing in America. I’m not going to be writing about horse racing at Belmont Park or anyplace else today. But I do like that line, and I’m asking that question but about a different subject.
Specifically, which movies for men do you like? You know, women have chick flicks and love stories, then there’s comedies, tear-jerkers, and wholesome family movies. What I have in mind are movies that guys like you and me will watch again and again; and we’ll watch them every time they’re broadcast.
So if I say, “Do you like this one?” you’ll say, “Hell yes! When is it on?” These are the kinds of movies that if I show you just a single image, you would probably recognize the movie. How about this one?

After seeing Ms Harada in >Mugendai and Glamorous Journey earlier this year, my expectations were quite high for her newest DVD from For-side.com – Beauty Heroine. Unfortunately, this DVD, is in my view, a major -disappointment.

Last month I was having at drink at Horatio’s, a seafood restaurant right on the water in San Leandro, California. This town is right across the bay from San Francisco’s International Airport. One other factoid – San Leandro is the birth place of Russ Meyer, who was the first guy to put a movie which featured ‘Tits and Ass’ into your neighborhood movie house.
Sorry about that archaic term ‘movie house’. When Russ began showing cleavage and lots more on screen – the word Multiplex hadn’t even been coined.
While colleges hold film festivals centered around Russ Meyer’s body of work, we will just look at one of his movies today. There’s tons of stuff about Russ on the web. So we hope you will use this review as a jumping off point to do further research on your own.

I know. It’s a tough word. And in reality, Alii, has its roots in Hawaii. According to Wikipedia, alii is a term generally relating to a chieftan, or ruler, of the highest class in Hawaiian society. It has been stretched to include Lord or Lady. So much for the intellectual properties of the title of the video. The DVD stars the lovely Emi Kobayashi – and while she doesn’t have her own entry in Wikipedia at this time, she is a wonderful Gravure idol, and she has a lengthy history in the idol business. She made her first DVD way back in 2002.
Palau is simply a world class resort. Thought not widely known, it attracts thousands of scuba enthusiasts eager to dive the crystal clear seas and meet the friendly sea life. The DVD was produced by ENTERBRAIN/TBS/N-THEATER who assembled a crew and flew them to Palau to shoot this breathtaking video. (more…)

What was the name of that tune made famous by the music group Dire Straits about 20 years ago? Oh yeah. It was called Money for Nothing. The lead singer and front man of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler was actually lampooning his own industry with those memorable lyrics:
that ain’t working’ … that’s the way you do it
Get your money for nothin’ and your chicks for free
But that’s what I thought of after watching this Miri Hani DVD entitled Yarujan! The subtitle is Miri Hani in Thailand. Trust me, you’d never know you were in Thailand unless you actually lived in the underbelly of Pattaya, or is it Bangkok – as displayed in the video. What we see are industrial wastelands, back alleys, scruffy tenements, and grungy locations of every stripe.
The DVD is a production of Takeshobo, a major production house, and a serious player in the world of Idol DVDs. But this DVD strikes me as if everyone involved – from the director, the producer, as well as the model – left a lot of effort unused. We got the DVD, they got the money. (more…)
